Tsukimi Dango

The tradition of offering rice dumplings while gazing at the beautiful full moon during the Chushu no Meigetsu (Mid-Autumn Moon) is said to have spread during the Edo period. In my 12-month wagashi-making course, this month's theme was "Tsukimi Dango" and "Mitarashi Dango." I truly enjoyed taking the time to savor the depth of Japan's traditional seasonal events through the art of wagashi. 仲秋の名月。美しい月を眺めながらお団子をお供えする風習は江戸時代に広まったそうです。12ヶ月の和菓子づくりコースでは、今月はこの「お月見団子」と「みたらし団子」を、その文化や歴史を学びながら手作りしました。和菓子を通して日本の伝統行事の奥深さを味わう時間を楽しませていただきました。
